The interior is coated in lacquer and tonoko (jiari type) to protect it from breath moisture and optimize the resonance. The ox horn reed is in good contain. This is a playable instrument. It is 19" long by about 1. 5" in diameter. This is a two piece flute that pulls apart for easy storage. New and other vintage shakuhachi start at around $800 and can easily go over $2000.
