Refinished in a vibrant, deep red lacquer, it has some wonderful open carvings on each spandrel showing birds and flowers. The sideboard is from Gansu province and in a style typical of the region. It would originally have included just the central doors, with fixed panels on either side. These have been converted recently for easier access to the interior,
