Unsinkable Sam Neutral This painting was originally aboutAfter the sinking of the Bismarck in 1941, British sailors found Sam clinging to a floating plankthe only survivor rescued by the HMS Cossack. Just months later, the Cossack was struck and sunk by a torpedo. Sam survived and was brought safely to the shores of Gibraltar. His final post was on board the famous aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal but the ship was torpedoed and Sam was found "angry but quite unharmed" clinging to a piece of debris. After the
