This chest was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) of sugi (cryptomeria) case and interiors. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This tansu chest is made with pegged tenon open mortise corner box joint construction. This chest has all its 150 year old deep rich patina. Most drawers and doors move easily without binding. The one full width drawer binds since the top
