1970年代はじめに「シューメーカーチェア」の製作を始めたのは、現在のオーナーであるラース・ワーナーの父親でした。この3本脚のスツールの歴史は15世紀にさかのぼり、何世紀にもわたってわずかにそのかたちを変えたものの、平らな座面の牛の乳搾り用のスツールとして使われてきました。そのうちに、靴職人が座り心地を良くするためにお尻のかたちにあわせて削ったことがきっかけになり、それにインスピレーションを得て現在のかたちに近づきました。座面はお尻の形になっていて長時間座っていても疲れにくく、3本脚なのでがたつきにくい設計です。
