The black sapote, also referred to as the chocolate pudding fruit, is in the persimmon family. It looks like a tomato, but when ripened is extremely soft and custard like inside, hence the term "chocolate pudding fruit". The black sapote does have a slight chocolaty flavor and is extremely high in Vitamin C.
