Old Map of Chinatown in San Francisco, 1939 - Grant Avenue, Stockton, Clay, Washington Street, St. Mary's Square john bute holmes The locations on this mapA charming souvenir map of Chinatown, originally drawn in 1939 by Hawaiian Chinese artist Ethel Chun. The map is seemingly meant to showcase the chaos of Chinatown to the average American tourist. Look closely and you can see that Chinatown is home to 'the first house built in San Francisco' and many 'bazaars'. In the bottom left corner is a nice illustration of San Francisco, with the Golden Gate Bridge and the 1939 Exposition on Treasure Island.
