Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1890's Sendai Clothing Tansu Chest 41"W Japanese The Shogi pieces are soldThis is an Antique Japanese Kimono chest or Ishodansu. This tansu was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) in the Sendai style of solid Keyaki (Japanese elm) front with Sugi (Japanese cedar) case and interiors. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This chest can be easily used stacked or separated for use as two bedside pieces, for example. In true Sendai style this tansu is beautifully decorated with each of the lock
