旧ユーゴスラビア出身のパフォーマンスアーティスト、マリーナ・アブラモヴィッチとドイツ人アーティスト、ウレイ（Ulay）の作品集。二人は、愛と人間関係の極限を探る革新的なパフォーマンスを多数創作しました。裸の二人が1時間以上にわたり何度もぶつかり合い続けた「Relations in Space」（1976年）や、マリーナ・アブラモヴィッチの心臓にウレイが矢を向け、弓の緊張感が互いのバランスを取った「休息のエネルギー」（1980年）、1981年から1987年にかけて22回、7時間もの間、沈黙の中向かい合って座り続けた「Nightsea Crossing」（1981–1987年）、最後の作品となった「万里の長城を歩く」（1988年）まで、本書では1976年から1988年まで続いた二人の活動とその後の関係を振り返ります。
