Karakterkop naar Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736 - 1783) - 1/3 kandelaar This edition is hand-carved inThis bronze bust is a character head after Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736 1783), modelled on his series of Charakterkpfe (Character Heads) made between 1770 and his death in 1783. Where his contemporaries carved portraits, Messerschmidt pushed the human face into extreme expression. This head is taken from The Incompetent Bassoonist, the mouth thrown open in a near shout. It is cast in bronze and finished with a dark, near black patina that reads the
