This chest was made in the mid Meiji era (c. 1880's) in the Yonezawa style of all solid Kiri (paulownia) case and interiors indicating a very high quality construction. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This chest can be easily used stacked or separated for side by side use or even as two bedside pieces. This tansu chest is made with pegged tenon open mortise
