Im Gegensatz zu Schafwolle sind Alpakahaare innen hohl. Wird Alpakawolle mit lanolinhaltiger Seife gewaschen, verliert sie mit der Zeit ihre Luftigkeit, da sich die Hohlrume der Haare mit Lanolin fllen.
