Although there have been depictions of snow crystals in Japan for centuries, the Yuki mon is a rather recent emblem. Without microscopes, it was difficult to have a precise idea of how snow crystals really looked. Thats why Yuki mon started to spread from the first half of the 19th century, after the publication of Sekka Zusetsu in 1832 by Doi Toshitsura, the 4th lord of Koga Domain. Doi imported
