According to Ra himself, he was an alien who had come down from Saturn in order to preach peace through his music. Regardless of where Sun Ra was from, he was truly otherworldly. With over 1,000 songs on over 100 records, Ra and his band the Arkestra showed us music in a way we've never seen it before, aurally, conceptually, and visually. He combined styles of jazz in a way that hadn't been done before with space age themes
