Instituted 1 January 1915 by Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI. (1915 1923 issue). Constructed of silver, consisting of a vaulted Cross Patte, the obverse with ribbed arms, bearing a central pebbled medallion overlaid by a raised inscription of FR TAPFERKEIT (FOR BRAVERY), situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked,
