The record was important in establishing their gothic sound, as their previous work had sounded a little more doom. Singer Nick Holmes tried a new vocal approach, adopting a higher pitched approach in place of the previous low grunts. The record has gone on to be a fan favorite, and Paradise Lost have continued playing into the present day,
