Congreve was re-employed on 5 August 1914
During the Great War he was appointed Recruiting Staff Officer at Brighton in April 1915 and was appointed a Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in June 1916
as he hit his left little finger against a truck and couldn't straighten it during a Driving Instruction course and was treated accordingly
